Eco Champions
Eco Champions
EcoChampions at Bowen Secondary School empower students to take active ownership of sustainability and environmental stewardship.
Aligned with Singapore's Green Plan 2030, the programme develops informed and responsible individuals who understand the importance of sustainable living and are committed to making a positive impact in the school and community.
Student-Led Sustainability
Through student-led initiatives, EcoChampions champion environmentally responsible habits and inspire their peers to take collective action towards a greener future.
Learning Through Hydroponics
A key feature of the programme is the school's hydroponics garden, where students engage in hands-on learning about food security and sustainable agriculture. Here, EcoChampions explore how food can be grown efficiently in an urban environment while gaining practical experience in planting, monitoring and harvesting crops. Through these experiences, students develop an appreciation of Singapore's efforts to strengthen local food resilience and recognise the role individuals can play in supporting these efforts.
The hydroponics garden also serves as a platform for meaningful community engagement. Students connect their learning to real-world impact by using their harvests to support community partners and outreach initiatives. In doing so, they develop empathy, compassion and a sense of social responsibility as they experience how their efforts can make a tangible difference in the lives of others.
Cultivating a Sustainable Future
At Bowen Secondary School, the EcoChampions Programme inspires students to move beyond awareness to meaningful action, nurturing future-ready individuals who actively contribute to a more sustainable and caring society.
